Welsh rugby internationals Gareth Anscombe and Alex Cuthbert in new venture

A fitness apps business, part-owned by Welsh rugby internationals Gareth Anscombe and Alex Cuthbert, has been boosted after raising more than £200,000 in crowdfunding to support expansion plans.

Along with business partner and entrepreneur Dean Jones, their company AGD Enterprises has developed a research platform – Fitap – connecting gym owners, personal trainers, sports clubs and health and fitness providers to consumers by supporting simply on a button.

The company had a soft launch before the pandemic, but is now looking to accelerate its growth with its increased funding.

Mr Cuthbert, who as well as being a Wales international plays for the Ospreys, said: At present there is no specific place where people can explore their health and fitness options , so the app will fill that void.

“Everyone is different and that includes where they are on their health and exercise journey, so it will give them an easy-to-use alternative to scouring the internet in hopes of finding something that works for them.

“We’re passionate about helping others get fit, happy and healthy, so it’s great to be able to bring Fitap back to market.”

Mr Anscombe, who also plays for the Ospreys, said: “In addition to physical health, consumer mental health is extremely important to us – particularly in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and the auto -isolation – so we have a free section where organizations can promote and share their mental health awareness information and activities.

“The app will provide users with a tailored end-to-end experience and provide a platform for fitness providers to connect directly with them, so they can advertise discounts and offers, and help bring the field from health and fitness in a modern, tech-savvy world.Fitness classes on offer vary from gym classes and tennis lessons to white-water rafting and summer rugby camps for kids, online and offline. line – the range is wide and inclusive.

Commenting on the fundraiser, Mr Jones said: “We are excited to share more with people in the coming months as this is a game changer for the industry and are grateful to those who have supported us on this journey. since our soft launch in 2020, including the well-known companies and sports stars who have recently supported our successful fundraiser, raising over £200,000.

After financing, the three directors maintain an equal share in a combined controlling interest in the company.
