“I think people are more blamed than ever for these things.”
Vince Vaughn defended his decision to shake hands with Donald Trump during the 2020 College Football National Championship game last January in New Orleans.
In a new interview with The Los Angeles Times, the 50-year-old actor said he had no regrets after receiving a backlash for briefly chatting with the President and First Lady Melania Trump in a private suite.
“During my career, I have met a lot of politicians who I have always been cordial with; I have met Nancy Pelosi and I have been cordial to her as well,” Vaughn explained. “It was the only time I met him. We said hello to him. He was very kind. I didn’t go into politics.”
The clip of the friendly meeting went viral at the time, with pockets of social media calling for Vaughn’s cancellation.
“I think people are more accused than ever of these things,” said the self-proclaimed libertarian. “But I don’t think most people take this stuff as seriously as the small percentage that makes noise about it.”
“I was brought up with the idea that you might have different tastes and beliefs and that you should respect and stand up for that in others, not shout it out,” he continued. “The people you disagree with the most, you should stand up for their right to do so. “

Although many assumed Vaughn was a Trump supporter from the friendly conversation on video, the “Swingers” star confessed that he did not vote for the former reality TV star.
“The only candidate I have ever supported is [former Libertarian presidential nominee] Ron Paul, “he said.” I don’t have a party that I support and approve of. In fact, for me sometimes it’s hard to find a candidate that you find philosophically consistent and who doesn’t just agree with whoever is funding their particular party. “
“That’s all I’m going to tackle at this point,” he added.
Meanwhile, you can catch Vaughn as a serial killer swapping his bodies with a high school girl in the new movie “Freaky”.
