USPS Carlsbad carriers honored with National Safe Driving Awards – NBC 7 San Diego
Eight carriers in the Carlsbad area received national awards this week for keeping truly stellar driving records on the job, the U.S. Postal Service said.
The National Safety Council (NSC) Million Mile Awards recognize drivers with 1 million driving miles or 30 cumulative years of driving without preventable incidents.
The carriers, five from the main post office in Carlsbad and three from USPS La Costa station, also in Southern California, received their Million Mile plates at special recognition events at their respective workplaces.
Here are the USPS carriers based in Carlsbad and winning the grand prize:
- George Hill, who worked at the main Carlsbad post office for 20 years, serving the USPS for 36 years in total.
- Lydie Navarro, who worked with USPS for 32 years, including 28 at the main Carlsbad location.
- Stephanie Medina, who was 32 with USPS under his belt, all in Carlsbad.
“We are extremely proud of these dedicated carriers and the examples they set,” Christina Hammond, Carlsbad Post Office Supervisor, said in a press release on Tuesday. “Their exceptional safety records – equivalent to 240 combined years of accident-free driving – – are incredible accomplishments and a tribute to their professionalism.”
So what’s the best advice from local carriers to keep you safe on the road?
Hill’s advice: “Follow the rules of the road. It takes two people to have an accident. If you are careful you can help avoid one.
The wise words of Navarro: “The years go by quickly. I just remember always focusing on working safely.
Pro tip from Medina: “Be patient with others while driving. “
