He might be one of Australia’s most muscular men, but even Sam Burgess admits to indulging in a cheeky snack once in a while.
And the former Rabbitohs star has taken his love for his favorite asset one step further – by investing in it.
Sam, 33, and his brother Luke have become co-owners of Orara Valley Jerky, Kitchen Confidential has revealed.
Football buddy Dan Vanderdonk runs the business and introduced Sam to jerky – a dried meat particularly popular in South Africa – years ago.
“I had never really eaten jerky before, but I tried Dan’s and was obsessed. I dreamed about it and woke up at midnight to eat it. I was eating so much my jaw hurt,” Sam explained.
“I asked Dan if I could come on board and grow the business because I wanted to market the product.”
Vanderdonk said boarding the Burgesses had “opened so many doors” with the business now selling 12,000 bags of jerky a week.
“Their involvement has seen us grow exponentially,” he said.
The jerky will also be sold in pubs owned by pub baron Stu Laundy, after the Burgesses teamed up with him to buy the Bayview Hotel in Woy Woy, Sydney.
