RCMP catch repeat offender red-handed with help from business leader – Kelowna News

Repeat offender arrested

A Kelowna business leader took matters into his own hands early Monday morning when he apprehended a burglar.

Police were called at 5:36 a.m. Monday by a business in the 1900 block of Bredin Road in Kelowna.

The manager called the RCMP to inform them that a man had broken into the company’s yard. When the police arrived, they discovered that the manager had confronted the man in the fenced yard.

The suspect fled on foot, but frontline officers were able to locate him in a parking lot at the back of the business. The suspect, a 27-year-old man, is well known to police and is from the Lower Mainland. He was arrested for breaking and entering and taken to cells where he will be held for a court appearance on Monday.

“Without the quick actions of the store manager and the response of our frontline officers, this individual would still be at large in our community,” said Const. Mike Della Paolera.

Police recovered two wagons with company property stickers that had been forced through a hole cut in the fence, along with several tools.

The suspect is listed on 220 police files, including for shoplifting, vehicle theft, disturbing public order and assault. RCMP say the suspect has been convicted 33 times since 2017, but did not release his name.
