Prison officer jailed for having sex with inmate in front of 11 other people
A prison officer was sentenced to jail for having sex with an inmate in front of 11 others and supplying the same inmate with contraband.
Tina Gonzalez made holes in her uniform pants to make it easier for her to have sex with the inmate at the Fresno County Jail. The 26-year-old also provided the same detainee with alcohol, razors and a cell phone. The former correctional officer would also inform the inmate when his cell would be searched.
Gonzalez quit her job after her arrest in May 2020. In April, she made an indisputable plea for the sexual activity of a detention center worker with a consenting inmate with drugs or alcohol, and a cell phone to give to an inmate.
Her former boss, Deputy Sheriff Steve McComas, pleaded for her to receive the maximum sentence of three years and eight months in prison.
“She took an oath that she betrayed and in so doing endangered the lives of her colleagues,” McComas said. “But she showed no remorse. She continually calls and has sexually explicit conversations with the inmate in question and brags about the crimes she has committed.”
However, the judge handed Gonzalez a lighter sentence due to his early plea and lack of criminal history.
“I think what you did was terrible, stupid and you ruined your career,” Judge Michael Idiart told Gonzalez. “But I also believe that people can redeem themselves and that you have the rest of your life to do it. Good luck.”
Tina Gonzalez was sentenced to two years probation and seven months in prison.
