New Coral post office scheduled for 2022 | New
CORAL – Five and a half years after it was destroyed by fire, and nearly two years since a pledge was made by the United States Postal Service at a town hall meeting at the local fire station, there is had a renewed promise to open a new post office for the village of Coral in the Township Center.
“I am pleased to announce that the United States Postal Service plans to complete a new facility at Coral in January 2022,” US Representative Glenn Thompson, R-Howard said on Tuesday.
“My office worked with the USPS to emphasize the importance of replacing this post office that was destroyed by fire in 2016,” said Thompson, who represents Indiana County as part of its 15th District of Congress since January 2019.
The new post office for ZIP code 15731 will be located at 437 First Ave., replacing 627 First Ave., where a pickup point was open four hours a day, providing over-the-counter service for those in need of postage stamps. , until a fire on March 24, 2016.
Firefighter Aaron Liggett, now 24, pleaded guilty in January 2017 to arson charges and was sentenced three months later by current judge Thomas M. Bianco to a sentence of up to at age eight in a state correctional facility.
“Coral residents will once again have a local location to carry out their mailing activities and no longer be burdened with having to go to their mailboxes,” continued Thompson.
“I thank everyone for their patience while this matter has been resolved, and the USPS for making this a priority.”
