Man sentenced to life for murder of trans woman Naomi Hersi
College dropout Jesse McDonald was jailed for life for the murder of trans woman Naomi Hersi in Hounslow, west London, in March.
McDonald, 25, was convicted of drugging and killing Hersi, 36, during a hearing at the Old Bailey on October 26.
He will spend at least 20 years behind bars.
McDonald, a former student at the London School of Economics, has also been sentenced to 30 months in prison for hijacking the course of justice, which will run concurrently.
His girlfriend, Natalia Darkowska, was also found guilty of obstructing the course of justice on Friday.
Darkowska, who lives in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, helped her boyfriend clear up after the murder. She will be sentenced on November 16.
Tom Dahri, Detective Inspector at the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “McDonald’s lied throughout his trial and he can now spend the next 20 years in prison reflecting on his actions.
“I hope Naomi’s family can take comfort in the fact that the killer of their beloved child will spend a very long time away from being able to harm someone else. They finally have justice.
Hersi, who lived in Mill Hill, north-west London, met McDonald’s on a connect website, FabSwingers, and the two spent three days together before heading to McDonald’s address in Hounslow.
McDonald was accused of drugging Hersi, before killing her with a knife and a broken bottle.
“After a while, he drugged her, got into a fight with her and finally killed her, repeatedly stabbing and cutting her with a broken bottle and a knife and maybe other things in order to ‘obtain his death, “said the prosecutor during the trial, quoted in the Metro newspaper.
The prosecutor added, “When that was done, when she was dead, he tried to clean her up and avoid detection. “
During the trial, the court heard that McDonald’s first contacted Hersi online 45 minutes after returning home after visiting his girlfriend, who was 17 at the time.
He ignored Darkowska’s increasingly persistent attempts to get in touch with him, before sending him a message a few days later that read, “Baby, I’ve been. [sic] fucking silly king.
In another post, he added, “I love you so much. Not fooled x. I became addicted to a bad drug that I had never encountered before.
McDonald’s claimed self-defense, claiming he had been drugged with GHB, but forensic toxicologist Vincent Cirimele said the man showed no signs of the drugs.
Cirimele reported that tests showed McDonald’s also used testosterone, cocaine and cannabis, and McDonald’s use of amphetamines, including crystal meth and MDMA, was “high to medium by compared to other recreational users “.
He said he believed the 25-year-old was “a regular and repeated user of the drug”.
