First “explosive” meeting of Vernon Kay and Tess Daly and “tacit understanding”
Vernon Kay is taking over Saturday night TV with his new Game of Talents game show, and he enlists the help of his famous wife Tess Daly for the exciting launch show.
Host Strictly is the guest on ITV’s new show, which will see audiences and celebrities try to guess the performers’ hidden talents based on first impressions and clues.
Vernon and Tess both have impressive careers, but they’ve also featured together on the BBC’s Just the Two of Us.
Although they have admitted that like every marriage they have their ups and downs, they are very much in love and believe that the success of their partnership is due to their similar upbringing.
The couple met at a BBC Christmas party in 2001, when they were both recently graduating from modeling on the TV show.
Tess once revealed that the first pull was powerful and instantaneous, telling Fabulous magazine, “It was all pretty immediate, really, because we instantly had a blast together.”
She added: “I couldn’t imagine having more fun with someone else.
“It was pretty explosive, I tell you.”
Tess is five years older than Vernon and it didn’t take long for her to realize that the former model was way more mature than any other girl he had been with.
He told the Guardian: “Tess was the first decent woman I have ever met.”
But there was one thing that really sealed the deal – the type of bank card she was using.
“She had a visa card when I was still on a solo student card,” he joked.
While staying at Castle I’m A Celebrity last year, Vernon revealed that his proposal to Tess in 2002 was one of the happiest times of his life.
Reliving the moment he first asked Tess, 51, to be his wife at his parents’ house in Stockport, he said: “I think that was when I proposed to Tess. On Christmas day, it was the last present under the tree.
“While she was so consumed by the ring, I was on one knee. She was like that. [pulls shocked face]. It was awesome. “
Vernon, 46, has reportedly shelled out up to £ 250,000 for her large emerald-cut diamond engagement ring on a platinum ring.
The happy couple then married on September 12, 2003.
But unlike many showbiz couples who rent large stately homes with helipads, the humble couple exchanged vows at Vernon’s local church, St Mary’s, in their hometown of Horwich, Bolton.
Tess looked stunning in a strapless A-line wedding dress by Marina Adanou, while Vernon opted for a white Alexander Savile Row suit, which he teamed with a pink shirt and patterned tie.
After the nuptials, Vernon drove them to their reception in a rented retro VW camper van.
The newlyweds and their guests then partied the night away in the nearby barn at Rivington Hall.
And five years ago, Vernon secretly arranged for the couple to renew their vows while on vacation in the south of France.
He arranged the venue and even curated a selection of outfit choices for his wife.
“I booked a weekend at our favorite hotel in the south of France and spoke to her stylist at the time and said I needed four dresses,” the father said. from two children to his campmates.
He added: “She didn’t know anything. I gave her a card and she was saying congratulations on your second wedding day and said we were going to renew our vows.
“She said ‘I have nothing to wear’ and I said ‘You say that … pick one’.”
Tess believes that the key to their happiness as a couple is that they have had the same style of upbringing.
“There is a tacit understanding between us, because we come from a similar stock. We come from similar families. We were raised very similarly, really,” she previously told the Belfast Telegraph.
“I guess that’s one of the reasons I’ve always felt so comfortable around him.”
