Darbouze D’Arce, Bennett wins bonus even in defeat, Rodriguez retires
CamSoda Legends might have been an odd concept, but free MMA is never a bad thing.
What could possibly be considered one of the most bizarre MMA cards to date took place at Club Sway in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. On Thursday night. CamSoda Legends saw Camgirl’s website Camsoda put on their first MMA show, promising all the streaming prowess of a cam site combined with the blood and violence of the cage. Which, at the very least, meant you’d likely have a hiccup-free stream. Because who knows better video streaming than a camgirl site? Porn and MMA together love… well, something.
Or as Cageside’s Josh Evanoff said, it was the best thing since Slice vs. Dada 5000.
All jokes aside, there were at least a few names familiar to MMA fans on the card, including former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez taking on another UFC vet in Alex Nicholson. Right below this couple (who served as the main event of the evening) was Charles Bennett, aka Krazy Horse.
In short, it was a bag of monster fights and some legitimate contests. And incredibly, the night even saw an D’Arce choke, succeeded by Carl Darbouze, who looked great against Oscar Delgado. Darbouze improved to 3-2 with the win and earned a bonus thanks to generous tips from CamSoda (yes, users could tip as they would with the regular CamSoda tariff – the fighters with the most tips earned as a bonus). They even made Darbouze read the name of its biggest dumpster: ILoveBigTitties. Seriously. Only on the internet.
The tips also generated sound effects on the webcast, with “finish it!” A popular option.
Matt Wagy managed to defeat featherweight foe Anthony Retic early in their fight, second after the main event. Retic was active from the bottom with kicks, but Wagy, a product of Team Alpha Male, was able to sink into the back choke to finish the first round.
Krazy Horse aka Charles Bennett, now known as Felony, and Bruce Lutchmedial had an entertaining first ride. Bennett mocked his opponent, feigning shaky legs as Lutchmedial worked his jab. Lutchmedial finished the round with a takedown, and although Bennett had a guillotine he couldn’t finish it.
Within a second of back and forth, Bennett actually followed fans’ wishes, throwing a fist back after a user flipped and sent that over the PA. Later in the round he scored a takedown and managed to gain control of Lutchmedial. Still, Lutchmedial returned and then cut Bennett, who put himself on his back to survive. Lutchmedial ended up with Bennett in an D’Arce, but the veteran survived.
In the third, Bennett outlasted another D’Arce, spent more time on top, took on the back late, but ended up on the back with Lutchmedial taking the win. Butch Lutchmedial had harsh words for Felony after the fight, which he accused of gossip involving Lutchmedial’s recently deceased brother.
Despite Lutchmedia’s victory, it was Charles Bennett who got a $ 1,000 bonus from the fans after the fight.
In the main event, Ricco Rodriguez tapped early after a cut opened in the back of his head. The end result was a win for Alex Nicholson, but it was an anti-climate late night. A disappointing finish on a camgirl site? This was perhaps the biggest surprise.
