CCTV catches thief ramming brave Brierley Hill business leader with getaway car

CCTV captured the moment a sneaky thief rammed her getaway car into a business executive as she tried to stop him from fleeing. The car had stopped in AED Rollers in Moor Street, Brierley Hill, and the driver got out and dragged a £400 steel bar into his vehicle.

He quickly jumped into his car when boss Chloe Fowler ran towards him. She had spotted the theft on CCTV from an upstairs office and bravely stood in front of the getaway car.

But the reckless driver put his foot on the accelerator, forcing the 28-year-old manager out of the way. Luckily, she was uninjured in the terrifying incident at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10.

Chloe, who is the daughter of the business owner, said: “In our offices on the second floor inside the building we have CCTV cameras and we saw this person pull over. We get a lot of people picking us up or visiting us so we thought, who is it, because we weren’t expecting anyone.

“He was wearing shorts which was weird because in the engineering industry they don’t usually wear shorts. We saw him walk towards two bundles of steel and he just started to pick one up and to drag him to his car.

“I thought ‘oh my god, he’s stealing from us’, I ran over and shouted ‘quick, he’s stealing’ to the guys. He got straight into his car and left his trunk open and my first instinct was to stand in front of the car.

“He just started driving, I froze, I didn’t know what to do. It wasn’t until I looked back at the footage after seeing how far he had moved me. It was so surreal.

“He didn’t hurt me, I was fine physically. I was looking him straight in the eye and he was looking at me and driving. There were three of them in the car.

“My other colleague Neil Gennard ran out and managed to open the driver’s door at the same time.”

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We received a report of stolen steel bars in Moor Street, Brierley Hill at around 12.30pm on Tuesday May 10. Anyone with information can contact us via Live Chat on our website west-midlands.police.uk and quote 20/450499/22.”
