Business Manager – Renewals & Retention – London

Do you love sales operations and have a great track record of customer support in magazine subscription? We have a brand new role as a Commercial Director working for a prestigious London-based scholarly membership society. As the organization enters an exciting period of heightened ambition, this newly created role will work with colleagues, members and external partners to contribute to the successful management and development of the Society’s journal portfolio and retain and grow income.

The Commercial Manager will also be responsible for supporting the sales and membership teams with customer renewals, sales operations, reporting and CRM management. This role will also work primarily with librarian clients and sales agents and will work with colleagues across the Company to support the business as patterns change in the rapidly changing scholarly publishing landscape.

Reporting to the Head of Magazine Sales and Development, some of the key responsibilities will include:

  • Assume responsibility for customer service functions, working closely with the Customer Service Representative to manage the shared sales inbox, manage sales operations and produce reports.
  • Respond to customer and librarian inquiries, including requests for quotes and invoices, license signings, and access issues
  • Maintain CRM records and use systems to generate quotes and renewal notices for sales and membership activities
  • Liaise with journal editorial and development colleagues and members of the Company’s editorial boards to help identify areas for improvement and implement solutions regarding customer-reported issues

We are looking for a talented individual with experience in sales operations or customer support in magazine subscriptions. You will have a working knowledge of CRM systems and experience contributing to system improvements. Experience in academic publishing, ideally with a publishing company would be ideal, but is not essential, but you will have high standards of customer service and ideally knowledge of library renewal and budget cycles.
