Back to school countdown: there are only 2 weeks left. Do these 5 things now.
There are only two weeks left until the fall semester begins on August 23, 2021. Here are the things you should be doing this week in order to be ready for a good start to the academic year.
- Set up your Handshake account with Career Services to search for a job on campus or to prepare for the fall career fair.
Many departments use the online portal for students to quickly apply for jobs and upload their resumes and application packages. Additionally, Handshake is the perfect place to apply for professional career jobs and to prepare for the College Career Fair to be held September 21-24, 2021 in Nebraska Unions.
New for fall: Handshake is the site for finding volunteer and community service opportunities for yourself and for Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs). Career Services and Student Leadership, Involvement, & Community Engagement partner with local Lincoln service organizations to list opportunities on Handshake, where Huskers can easily search and sign up to help.
- Visit HuskerTech to make sure you are up to date on your computer’s software and hardware.
Check out their handy online list of laptop, software, and tablet requirements for select majors and colleges to make sure you know what you might need to start the semester. The software can only be ordered online, but you can purchase other items in person at the computer store on the campus on the lower level of the Union of Nebraska. Open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
- Submit your COVID-19 vaccine information to the COVID-19 Voluntary Vaccine Registry.
If you haven’t already, now is the time to do this task. No need to delay or postpone until tomorrow. At most, it will take 3 minutes. You’ve probably stood in line longer for coffee or a meal. By recording your vaccine information, you help our campus better understand the extent of immunization rates in our community and help plan the fall semester. You will also be entered to win a number of prizes. Anyone who registers by August 15 will be eligible for the grand prizes, which include five prizes worth one year of tuition and undergraduate fees ($ 9,872).
Do you want to get vaccinated against COVID-19? Use the Vaccine Finder website to find a vaccination center near you.
- Sign up for mail forwarding at your local post office or online.
It’s a quick and easy task to check off the list before moving to campus or elsewhere in Lincoln. It only takes a few minutes and prevents important letters and invoices from reaching you late. Here is a step-by-step guide to registering.
- Get your bike in good working order with a tune-up.
If you plan to use your bike for a quick commute between classes, downtown, or between the city and eastern campuses, make sure you keep it in good working order. Contact your local bike shop to schedule a tune-up to check gears, brakes, chains, wheels, etc. If you’re already in Lincoln, the bike shop at the UNL Outdoor Adventures Center is open at 2 p.m.e and W Streets and can perform any tune-ups and repairs you may need.
