Angie Kukawski dead: Los Angeles business manager killed in homicide

Angela “Angie” Kukawski, a Los Angeles-based entrepreneur who worked at Boulevard management in Woodland Hills, has died, the Ventura County Coroner’s Office confirmed to Variety. She was 55 and the cause of death appears to be homicide, according to sources citing a Dec. 22 incident in Van Nuys and Simi Valley, California.

Los Angeles police arrested a 49-year-old man, identified as Jason Barker, who was being held on $2 million bail, according to an LA County inmate admissions file. On December 29, the bond was increased to $3.07 million. He is due in court on January 12, 2022.

According to a local report, a woman in her 50s was found dead in the back of a parked car in Simi Valley, just north of Los Angeles. Sources confirm that Kukawski was the woman. The Simi Valley Police Department and the Los Angeles Police Department have arrested the alleged suspect, who appears to have transported the body of Van Nuys to a relative’s home in Simi Valley in the early morning hours of 23 December.

Kukawski, also known as Angela Castro, was a mother of five and, according to friends, was “loved” in the industry. She is described as “hardworking” and “a straight shooter” by a music business associate who had liaised with her. Boulevard, where she most recently worked, specializes in accounting and financial management services for artists, athletes and entrepreneurs and advises on asset management, tax preparation, insurance and estate and retirement planning, among other offerings.

At Boulevard, Kukawski worked with clients including Nicki Minaj, rappers Kanye West and Offset and, for a time, the Kardashians, as well as the estate of Tupac Shakur, according to government documents and former associates.

“We are saddened and heartbroken by the loss of our colleague, Angie Kukawski,” Boulevard’s Todd Bozick said in a statement to Variety. “Angie was a kind and wonderful person, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Our deepest condolences go out to all of Angie’s family and friends.

Little is known about the circumstances of the crime, but it is believed that Barker was Kukawski’s boyfriend.

Update: A press release issued by the LAPD on December 29 details that Barker allegedly killed Kukawski inside their shared home in Sherman Oaks, then “placed her in his vehicle” and drove to Simi Valley, where the The victim’s car and body were discovered the 1500. block of Patricia Ave.

A report in the Los Angeles Times adds that Barker was charged by the LA County prosecutor with two felonies: one count of premeditated murder and one count of torture, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the newspaper.
